Just like any commodity, oil paintings should be made to last long. And in order to make them timeless, they should be kept in good condition. Here are some simple tips on how to properly care for your canvas paintings.
Never do something that will disfigure the painting. Do not lean the front or back surface of a stretched canvas on a pointed or sharp object, no matter how small. Choose the best location for your painting by avoiding places which will put the painting under direct sunlight, extreme heat, extreme cold, or to extreme humidity. Dust your painting regularly.
If something bad happens to the work, never rely on your own work. Bring it to the artist who made it. Do-it-yourself usually do not work with canvas paintings.
