Spider-Man 3 explores the latest chapter of Peter Parker’s education in the balance of power and responsibility. Back in January 2005, Sony Pictures Entertainment completed a seven-figure deal with screenwriter Alvin Sargent, who had penned Spider-Man 2, to work on Spider-Man 3 Blu-ray with an option to write a fourth film. When cascading through the cityscape, Spider-Man 3 still makes us gasp with delight, but on Earth those gasps come solely in reaction to the cynical dreariness of the script.
